Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology is located in the southern wing of the Medical College building. A blood bank, immunohematology, clinical pathology and hematology facilities are available in the hospital. The department has diagnostic and teaching facilities. The diagnostic section includes histopathology, cytology, hematology and blood bank facilities. The histopathology section receives specimens from hospital. The cytology section receives around 5000 specimens per annum. The section includes fine needle aspiration cytology, fluid cytology and exfoliative cytology. The clinical pathology section is located in the central laboratory which is a 24-hour reporting facility. The above facilities are available for undergraduate and postgraduate training. Well qualified and experienced Faculty members have published articles in indexed national and international journals. Blood donation camps are regularly organized and blood is donated to needy patients.
The department is involved in teaching basic pathology for medical, dental, paramedical courses and postgraduate dental students.

In 2006, the postgraduate degree course in Pathology (MD) was started with an annual intake of two students.
